Meet Our Friendly Staff at Marketown Health
Our doctors have a wide range of general practice skills, including emergency, antenatal, pallative care, and minor surgical procedures. They work with a dedicated team of nursing and administrative staff to deliver the highest possible levels of patient care.
Marketown Health is also fortunate to have registrars completing their postgraduate specialist qualifications while working with us. These GP doctors are fully qualified and work closely with our senior doctors.

Craig joined the practice in 1998. He has a strong interest in all area of general practice and is an RACGP fellow. With 3 kids, he has first-hand experience of the many dimensions of life’s complications and impacts on health. Craig has specialised skills in workplace medical health and medical computing.
Workplace health includes areas such as train driver medicals, pre-employment medical examinations, and surveillance of health for persons working with hazardous substances. Craig is a member of ANZSOM, a professional body which fosters knowledge in occupational medicine.
In medical computing Craig has participated in many professional committees to foster better health care using computerised records. Most recently Craig has been a member of the Clinical Governance Advisory Committee for the Federal Government’s My Health Record.
Hobbies include bee- and chicken-keeping, computing, gardening, kayaking and hanging out with the family.
Peter began at the practice in 1991.
His special interests are Travel Medicine, Acupuncture, Medical Education and Medical Politics
Peter lectures on Travel Medicine, works at GP Access, visits Aged Care facilities and is Chair of the Board of Hunter Primary Care, the not-for-profit organisation which is responsible for GP Access, local HeadSpace and other psychology services.
Peter is a supervisor of GP registrars, medical students and international medical graduates, and a clinical teacher in post-graduate general practice for training provider GP Synergy.
His hobbies include tennis, basketball, golf and travel.
Philippa has been a general practitioner here at the practice since 1988. Her particular medical interests include all Family Medicine, Women’s Health, Mental Health, Skin Cancer and Aged Care.
Philippa is a supervisor of GP registrars, medical students and international medical graduates, and a clinical teacher in post-graduate general practice for training provider GP Synergy.
Philippa is also a surveyor for GPA general practice accreditation and a participant in GP Access; and is an interviewer for post-graduate general practice trainee selection for Australian General Practice Training.
Philippa is also a keen bushwalker and birdwatcher. Other hobbies include cycling and swimming.
Georgina joined the team in November 2014 after being on maternity leave. She has completed training in family planning and sexual health, and also has an interest in diabetes, other metabolic diseases and preventative health. In 2015 she completed the FRACGP exams. Prior to her medical career she completed an advanced science degree at the University of NSW, and subsequently spent several years at the Garvan Institute in Sydney involved in breast and prostate cancer research. She then returned to university to study medicine at Sydney University.
Outside of work she is busy looking after her 4 young children and loves to run, hike and practice yoga.
Rob completed his Canadian training in both Family Medicine and Emergency Medicine in 2001. While working in Canada, Rob was a clinical instructor with the University of BC Department of Family Medicine and Emergency Medicine. He was also a physician examiner for the Medical Council of Canada.
Rob & his family moved back to Newcastle in 2012 and he joined the practice in 2014. Rob enjoys teaching medical students at the practice, and enjoys all aspects of family medicine with an interest in skin lesions, travel medicine and men’s health. Rob also performs cardiac stress tests with a local cardiologist and works for GP Access providing after hours care. When not at work, Rob will be in the surf or entertaining his kids.?
Rob graduated from Newcastle University and has been working in the Hunter for the last 5 years. He has a wide range of interests including Family medicine, Skin Cancer, Sports Medicine and Travel Medicine. He has worked with the West Indian and Sri Lankan Cricket teams and is currently one of the Medical directors overseeing ACT Cricket.
He enjoys all sports, spending time outdoors and pretends to be a carpenter in his spare time.
Emma joined the team in 2016 after being on maternity leave. She is interested in all aspects of General Practice, in particular mental health, Aboriginal Health, antenatal care, paediatrics and geriatrics.
Emma was a volunteer counsellor and trainer with the Australian Breastfeeding Association for many years, and has also been involved in General Practice Registrar training. Emma is a member of the Hunter Postgraduate Medical Institute.
Emma grew up in Newcastle and graduated from Newcastle University. In her spare time, she enjoys reading and going to the beach.
Registered Nurse and Credentialled Diabetes Educator Deborah joined the practice in 2016, and is our advanced clinical specialist in all aspects of diabetes management. Deborah has been a Registered Nurse for almost 15 years, and has a diverse nursing background including hospital and community work in both Australia and the United Kingdom. Deborah is passionate about supporting every person with diabetes feel empowered and confident in how they manage their diabetes. When Deborah isn’t reading diabetes journals, she is found reading to her two young children, and dreaming of returning to the white sandy beaches of Zanzibar Island, Africa.
