Meet the Friendly Staff at Marketown Health

The doctors at Marketown Health have a wide range of general practice skills, including emergency, antenatal, pallative care, and minor surgical procedures.  They work with a dedicated team of nursing and administrative staff to deliver the highest possible levels of patient care.

Marketown Health is also fortunate to have registrars completing their postgraduate specialist qualifications while working with us.  These GP doctors are fully qualified and work closely with Marketown Health's senior doctors.

Dr Peter Hopkins L

MBBS(Hons), MMedSc(EPI), FRACGP

Peter is the CEO of Marketown Health. He is an experienced medical practitioner with over 40 years in clinical practice.

He was as a principal of the King Street General Practice until the practice relocated and rebranded in 2017 to Marketown Health.

Peter is a fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and a member of the Australian Medical Association.

Peter is a supervisor of GP Registrars and medical students and lectures in travel medicine.

His special interests are geriatric medicine, acupuncture, medical education and medical politics.

He regularly visits his elderly patients at home or at aged care facilities.

He was the founding Chair of the Hunter Urban Division of General Practice.

He is a Director and past Chair of Hunter Primary Care and a participating doctor in the GP Access After Hours program.

Georgina

Adv Sc (Hons),  MBBS (Hons) FRACGP

Georgina joined the team in November 2014 after being on maternity leave. She has completed training in family planning and sexual health, and also has an interest in diabetes, other metabolic diseases and preventative health. In 2015 she completed the FRACGP exams.  Prior to her medical career she completed an advanced science degree at the University of NSW, and subsequently spent several years at the Garvan Institute in Sydney involved in breast and prostate cancer research. She then returned to university to study medicine at Sydney University.

Outside of work she is busy looking after her 4 young children and loves to run, hike and practice yoga.

Robert

BSc MD, CCFP (EM) FRACGP

Rob completed his Canadian training in both Family Medicine and Emergency Medicine in 2001.  While working in Canada, Rob was a clinical instructor with the University of BC Department of Family Medicine and Emergency Medicine. He was also a physician examiner for the Medical Council of Canada.

Rob & his family moved back to Newcastle in 2012. Rob enjoys teaching medical students at Marketown Health and enjoys all aspects of family medicine with an interest in skin lesions, travel medicine and men’s health. Rob also works for GP Access providing after-hours care and with Hunter ENT, helping in the diagnosis of throat cancers. When not at work, Rob will be in the surf or entertaining his kids.

Robert H

 BMed, FRACGP (Medal)

Rob graduated from Newcastle University and has been working in the Hunter for the last 10 years. He has a wide range of interests including Family medicine, Skin Cancer, Travel Medicine and Sports medicine - having worked with the West Indian and Sri Lankan Cricket teams. He is involved with the training of new GPs and enjoys spending time with his family and running/cycling in his spare time.

Emma Mather

BMed(Hons) and Diploma of Child Health, FRACGP

Emma joined the team in 2016 after being on maternity leave. She is interested in all aspects of General Practice, in particular mental health, Aboriginal Health, antenatal care, paediatrics and geriatrics. 

Emma was a volunteer counsellor and trainer with the Australian Breastfeeding Association for many years, and has also been involved in General Practice Registrar training. Emma is a member of the Hunter Postgraduate Medical Institute.

Emma grew up in Newcastle and graduated from Newcastle University. In her spare time, she enjoys reading and going to the beach.

Vasundhra

MBBS FRACGP Dip (Obs)

Vasundhra has been a GP for the past 15 years.

Having previously worked in Adelaide, Darwin and Coffs Harbour, Vasundhra has been in Newcastle since 2009.

Her interests are Women’s health and Family care.

In her spare time Vasundhra likes to walk and swim and spend time with her husband and children.

Zena

BMed, FRACGP, Diploma of Child Health

Dr Zena grew up in Newcastle.  She graduated from medicine at the University of Newcastle.  After completing her internship in Newcastle, she moved to Perth to complete resident training in women’s health and paediatrics.  Dr Zena worked in paediatrics at the Princess Margaret Hospital in Perth for nearly 5 years.  This sparked her interest in general practice.  She then undertook her GP training on the Central Coast, completing in 2017.  Dr Zena is interested in all aspects of general practice with a special interest in paediatrics, women’s health and preventative medicine.  She has also completed family planning and sexual health courses.

Dr Zena is returning to Newcastle to be closer to her very large extended family.   But she still enjoys travelling around Australia and the world and does this when she can.

Bianca Sheridan

BSci(Med) BA MBBS (UNSW) FRACGP

Bianca is a dedicated General Practitioner who takes a holistic approach to the care of her patients.

She obtained her medical degree from the University of NSW and completed her internship/RMO training with Hunter New England Health.

Bianca then undertook her GP qualification through the Rural Pathway for registrars working in Brunswick Heads and in Mullumbimby.

She is the mother of three young boys which keeps her busy.

Her interests include family medicine and shared care antenatal.

Nick grew up in Sydney, then graduated from medicine at Newcastle University in 2014.

He has worked around the Hunter since, in hospital-based general medicine and emergency departments, and at Lake Macquarie Private Hospital. Nick has also completed a Diploma of Tropical Medicine & Hygiene in Liverpool, UK, in 2018. Creatively inclined with reading, piano, and violin himself, Nick believes finding interests is one of life's great pleasures, and advocates for balanced life philosophies making way for better health.

Gabriella is a GP registrar who hails from sunny WA. Never one to take a conventional approach, Gabriella completed a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Anthropology & Communication Studies at the University of Western Australia before going on to complete her medical degree at Notre Dame University Fremantle.

After finishing her internship in WA Gabriella's love of adventure took her on a 5 year journey around the globe gleaning medical experience in far flung places.

Gabriella’s interests lie in Humanitarian work, Emergency medicine, Dermatology, travel and dive medicine.

In her free time Gabriella can be found chasing wind, waves or fresh snow around the world.

Cate graduated from Medicine at the  University of Newcastle. She is keen to support her patients in the general community with health issues including chronic disease and mental health.

She has a interest in the whole span of woman health from puberty to menopause and beyond. She enjoys supporting women with pre pregnancy planning and fertility issues through to providing antenatal and postnatal care in the community.

She has completed extra study in dermatology including skin cancer medicine and minor surgical procedures.

Cate cares about supporting the health of her patients and helping them to achieve their best.

Outside work she enjoys spending time with family and friends and running.

Dr Nigel Bull completed his undergraduate medical training at the University of Sydney before returning to Newcastle for post-graduate training in the Teaching Hospitals of the Lower Hunter.

Subsequently he entered General Practice,completed his Fellowship Exams(RACGP) in 1988 and did further training in the use of medical hypnosis,relaxation therapy and psychological strategies re GP problems.

Dr Nigel’s other medical interests include Lifestyle and Preventative Medicine plus Chronic Disease Management.

Apart from medicine he enjoys his family,swimming,tennis,music,bushwalking,camping and paddling.

RN Carly - Carly has a Masters in Nursing. She has extensive paediatric nursing experience at John Hunter Childrens Hospital.

RN Rebecca – Rebecca has extensive experience in surgical nursing, both public and private. Rebecca has also worked as anaesthetic nurse with skills in venipuncture.

RN Zoe – Zoe is a nurse immuniser with emergency nursing experience.

RN Kate - Kate has emergency nursing experience in both rural and metropolitan departments and comes with venipuncture and cannulation skills
